Münster Municipality
The Organization

The Münster Municipality in North Rhine-Westphalia (300.000 inhabitants) is equipping its municipal public order staff with body-cams to increase their safety. The use of the body-cams is limited to certain areas of operation.

Body-Cam Application

Start:
2023
Main Objective:
The main objective is to increase the safety and protection of the Municipal Public Order Service employees by equipping them with body-cams. This makes it possible to document potentially dangerous situations and serves as a deterrent to conflict.
Application:
The body-cams are to be deployed only in specific, predefined locations, in areas with higher conflict potential. This respects the privacy of citizens and addresses data protection concerns to a certain extent.
Feedback:
The introduction of body-cams has both supporters and critics. Data protectionists have expressed concerns about data privacy, while law enforcement staff are optimistic and expect the body-cams to increase security and make their work more effective. Actual experience and feedback will show how successful this project is.
